Did you say Education?

<>Education is a subject that is the most talked about in India, but least looked into by policy makers. The only time when changes take place is when it is

(a) politically motivated (inspired by megalomania -- remember the chapters on Laloo Prasad Yadav?), or religion, or political indoctrination;

(b) motivated by greed.  That is why India has become host to medical and engineering colleges without teachers or facilities or attendant hospitals.  There are people to start schools only with the primae motive of making money.  Seldom has school permission been withdrawn on grounds of not promoting quality education;

(c) spurred on by serious thinking, on the basis of research and a comprehensive understanding of what students need. This is a ririty, but there are signs that this breed is still alive and kicking.

<>ETL is concerned about education, and some of its promoters' views can be found in the articles listed here. It is also concerned with policymaking, and the generation of wealth.  The latter is the most important contributor to social wellbeing, and the latter to economic development.
